“The New Media Institute houses the University of Georgia’s largest certificate program. The New Media Certificate supplements any undergraduate or graduate degree and is a credential that demonstrates a student is technowledgeable: the understanding of new media technologies and their application in a chosen field. Certificate students have access to hands-on classroom environments, innovative technologies, and networking opportunities that lead to J-O-B-S. The New Media Certificate provides students with an array of skills and experiences that form a competitive advantage in today’s job market, no matter the career path. And long after graduation, certificate alumni have endless opportunities to stay involved and access to a robust alumni network.”

When I was in high school, I took an AP Computer Science Principles class. Even though the curriculum focused on basic JavaScript, I really enjoyed learning how to code and knew I wanted to continue to learn more in college. I chose to do the New Media Certificate rather than the Certificate in Computing because New Media combined everything I was interested in: graphic design, web development, user experience, and more. The Introduction to New Media class gave me more insight into the tech world and made me even more fascinated and excited for my future New Media classes. I’ve expanded upon my design skills and learned so much about HTML, CSS, and WordPress through New Media Production. As an advertising major, I plan to combine the skills I have learned through my advertising and New Media Certificate classes and apply them to businesses.
